Course Introduction

In this course, the student will develop an understanding of inspecting residential thermal insulation, vapor retarders and ventilation systems, as well as the inspection of interior elements of residential dwellings such as walls, ceilings, floors, basements, doors, windows and interior stairs/railings, installed countertops and cabinets, and garage doors/door operators.

The student will learn about some common materials in insulation, moisture control, insulation and ventilation of walls, roofs, floors, basements and crawlspaces, and good air quality in buildings.

The course also familiarizes the student with common problems associated with walls, ceilings and floors; trim, counters and cabinets; stairs; windows, skylights and solariums; doors; basements and crawlspace leakage. The difference between functional issues and cosmetic issues are identified in this course.
