Diploma Program – 46 Weeks (25hrs/week)

Admission Requirements:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent or Mature Student Status
    (at least 19 and out of school for one year).
  • Courses are open to any applicant who possesses a
    good command of the English language and is able
    to follow instruction.
  • An admissions interview will be administered to
    determine if the applicant has the required interest,
    motivation, and entry-level skills to take this
    program.

Program Objective

The objective of this program is to provide the student with the opportunity to acquire knowledge of business concepts, as well as gain the necessary computerized accounting and office skills. This program provides graduates with the necessary skills to maintain complete sets of books, keep records of accounts, verify the procedures used for recording financial transactions, and provide personal bookkeeping services.

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

Introduction to Keyboarding

Learn about the components of the computer and keyboard, as well as the seating, posture, and hand positioning necessary for efficient keyboarding.

Keyboard Skill Building Level 1

Students will increase key recognition and build confidence using the keyboard, while improving speed and accuracy.

PC Fundamentals, End User

Explore the history of personal computing, the hardware and software components necessary for personal computer use, file management, multimedia options, and browsing
the internet.

Windows Level 1

Cover the basic concepts and most commonly used features and functions of Windows, including: opening applications, using help and shutting down the computer.

Windows Level 2

This course provides an advanced look at the Windows operating system, which is a platform that builds on previous versions of Windows. In this latest version of Windows, earlier features and functionalities have been improved and new and exciting tools have been incorporated. In this course, students will learn about managing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing the Microsoft Windows operating system.

Word Level 1

Beginner Microsoft Word. Learn to edit and format documents, insert tables, images, shapes, and other graphic elements in Word.

Word Level 2

Intermediate Microsoft Word. Learn how to edit and add formatting and special characters, create envelopes and labels, perform mail merges, develop tables of contents and tables of figures, and more.

Excel Level 1

Beginner Microsoft Excel. Learn how to create and manage worksheets, enter data, create basic formulas, and more.

Excel Level 2

Intermediate Microsoft Excel. Learn how to create and format charts, name ranges, and sort, filter, and consolidate data.

Excel Level 3

Advanced Microsoft Excel. Learn how to automate tasks, create Pivot Tables and Charts, estimate payments, and create connections between Excel worksheets and web data sources.

Outlook Level 1

Beginner Microsoft Outlook. Learn how to manage email, contacts, scheduling and tasks in Microsoft Outlook.

Outlook Level 2

In this course, students learn how to use both the e-mail program and the personal information manager components of Microsoft Outlook. The skills learned in this course will help students use Microsoft Outlook effectively both at work and in their personal lives.

Access Level 1

Beginner Microsoft Access. Learn the core concepts of Microsoft Access. Create databases, tables, queries, forms and reports.

PowerPoint level 1

Beginner Microsoft PowerPoint. Students learn to create, manage, and save presentations. They will also learn to insert different things into PowerPoint and add transitions and animations to create dynamic presentations.

Internet Fundamentals

This course explores the various components of the Internet using Microsoft Internet Explorer. They learn how to customize the Internet Explorer browser, and examine the Web, e-mail, blogs, discussion groups, social media, chatting, multimedia and other web technologies.

Word Processing Drills Level 1

This course provides the students a chance to demonstrate their skills and knowledge obtained during their Word-processing and Spreadsheet courses.

Word Processing Drills Level 2

Spreadsheet Practical Applications: This course provides the students a chance to demonstrate their skills and knowledge obtained during their Word-processing and Spreadsheet courses.

Office Procedures Level 1

Learn and practice important office procedures, such as basic banking, records management, postal and courier services, telephone and fax services, dealing with the public, and using the Internet to research information.

Customer Service

Learn the fundamentals of customer service, and help them to develop core competencies for providing excellent customer service.

Management Fundamentals

Introductory management course that provides students with the essential tools required of today’s effective supervisors or junior managers. The course combines theoretical, how-to information, with practical applications.

Business Correspondence Level 1

Emphasis on the acquisition of skills and style mechanics needed to produce personal and office correspondence. The parts of a business letter are examined in detail, as
are the guidelines for organizing and writing a letter.

Business Math

Introduce students to helpful tools that will enable them to perform quick, easy, and accurate basic math functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

Basic Bookkeeping Level 1

Provides students with an understanding of the double entry system of bookkeeping and provides the essential accounting tools for the workplace. The course is especially beneficial for students planning to take a computer accounting program or use computer accounting in the workplace.

Basic Bookkeeping Level 2

Provides students with a greater understanding of accounting and the procedures used to produce financial reports.

Business Financial Management

Learn about the fundamentals of business financial management, and learn to develop core competencies to understand and analyze financial information presented in typical business scenarios.

Quickbooks

Students are introduced to QuickBooks and its features. As students progress through the course, they will become familiar with the QuickBooks interface and learn how to perform common tasks using QuickBooks.

Simply Sage

Students will work step-by-step through the procedures for setting up each module, followed by transaction by transaction processing covering the concepts and techniques needed to use the software. As the student works through the lessons, they are given ample opportunity to explore and practice these techniques throughout the course.

Sage 300 General Ledger

Possess knowledge in bookkeeping or accounting theory, basic knowledge of Windows and basic knowledge of Excel.

Sage 300 Accounts Receivable

Introducing Accounts Receivable; Setting up accounts receivable; Verifying Information in other modules.

Sage 300 Accounts Payable

Introducing Accounts Payable; Setting up accounts payable; Verifying Information in other modules

Human Resource Management

This course introduces students to the key concepts and processes of effective human resource management, and exposes them to this dynamic and diverse field. This course provides a foundation in theory and practice of techniques and activities that organizations utilize in acquiring, developing, and maintaining an effective workforce. Topics include human resources planning, recruitment and selection of staff, training and development, performance appraisal, compensation, and employee safety, security, and health.
